We Are Going Up, I Said We Are Going Up

York secured the promotion back to the National League after a 2-0 win over Boston United in the National League North playoff final.

Looking to utilise a home advantage, York came into the final off the back of a seven-game winning streak. It was a record crowd at the LNER Community Stadium with 7,448 fans coming out to support the Minstermen.

Goals from Lenell John-Lewis and Maziar Kouhyar were enough to win it for manager John Askey’s side.

The final whistle queued scenes of mass elation as fans ran on to the pitch to celebrate with the players.

Players were given their winners medals by club chairman Jason McGill before raising the trophy, highlighting what a momentous occasion this was for the team.

City of York council congratulated York City on their triumph. Councillor Keith Aspden, Leader of City of York Council reacted to the promotion, saying "I know that everyone across the city will join me in celebrating this fantastic achievement and this excellent result."

The club were invited by The Lord Mayor of York to the newly restored Guildhall to celebrate their promotion in their centenary year. York City Football Club was originally founded at York's historic Guildhall and celebrate their 100th year anniversary as a club in 2022.
